Maritzburg City Marathon
This is the twenty second staging of this race and many athletes will be running in their permanent numbers. You can also qualify for a permanent number by successfully completing the 42,2 km distance (within the 61/2 hour time limit) five times.
The 21,1 km course starts and finishes at Golden Horse, 45 New England Road, Pietermaritzburg. The route takes you through the city and back past the iconic City Hall before looping through the suburbs of Bisley and Pelham before returning to the Golden Horse through Scottsville.
The 10km route starts at the Golden Horse at 9am. After a fast start into town the route loops back through Alexandra Park and joins the last 5km of the Marathon Route.
The course has gentle climbs (almost flat) and good long gentle down hills. Each lap affords plenty of ‘make up’ if you are chasing a good time or qualifier
We are proud of the fact that we put every effort into making it possible for each and every athlete to achieve their goal. Event Medical Services provide more than adequate medical support and athletes are served by rubbing stations en route.
This race is rated as the BEST MARATHON by Tom Cottrell in the Nedbank Runners’ Guide.
